The Righteous & The Wicked
Good Morning,
Psalm 36:1 “The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.”
When David looked at the evil people around him, he learned a few things: First, in verse 1, he learned that they do not fear God.
vs. 2 “For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.”
Second, in verse 2, he sees the evil people so proud of their action. The wicked are often proud of their planning and getting away with a wrong. Evil people will speak well of themselves until it turns to hate. Why? Because they know they are lying; they know they are pretending to be something they are not. Evil people turn to hate when they see the righteous doing right and not crumbling under the weight of the attack launched by the wicked.
vs. 3 “The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good."
The lack of the fear of God is followed by flattery and hatred. Hatred needs to break free, which enables words of iniquity to follow. The wicked speak evil and then rant and rave to cover their insecurities; but they only succeed in proving they have no wisdom or ability to do good.
While the wicked boast, the righteous continue to do good, to seek the Lord, and to find wisdom and understanding; this, of course, only makes the wicked more angry.
vs. 4 “He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.”
The wicked find no victory, no satisfaction, and no accomplishments; thus they lay awake at night following further down the path of wrong and evil. While the righteous hate evil, the wicked follow it.
Of the righteous, David writes:
vs. 8 “They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
The remainder of chapter 36 tells of the righteous. The righteous learn of the mercy of God, His righteousness, and His loving kindness. They find themselves ABUNDANTLY SATISFIED – something the wicked will never gain.
Pity the wicked, for they will never find what they desire.
